Chocolate orange Bronuts

“What are Bronuts?” you ask

Brownie mixture doughnuts! I had not heard of them either until recently but thanks to the fabulous Pullman train Crew out of Paddington who introduced me to the idea by mentioning them, I had to look further.

So chocolate brownies are not something I have ever made, so I had to have a go and finding that even Terry who does not like chocolate cake became immediately addicted I knew I was onto something.

Then after a couple of times making them, I thought how can I adapt to my own ideas and was (metaphorically) hit on the head with a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

You will need doughnut molds if you want to do bronuts like mine but you can put the mixture in cake cases and do them as cupcakes I had mixture left over so did a couple of them

So the recipe

Ingredients

2 Terrys choc orange plain they are 157gms each you need 200gms for the base mix (i weighed one and it was exactly 157gms amazing)

200gms butter I use salted but the recipe I used said unsalted so take your pick

4 eggs

275gms sugar I just used granulated brown may be even better

100gms plain flour sr at a push

50gms cocoa powder

Extra choc about 100-150 gms I use the rest of the chocolat orange and add some extra chocolate

Method

Turn the oven on to 160-180 to warm up

Butter your doughnut molds

Measure roughly 200 gms of the Choc Oranges and put the rest to one side and put in a microwaveable bowl with the butter

Melt the butter and chocolate gently in the microwave, I take it out before completely melted and stir until fully liquid so as not to over microwave it.

Put aside and leave to cool

The rest of the chocolate orange I put in a food processer with about 50 gms of white chocolate (this is optional as to how you want it you can use plain or milk choc if you prefer, and I wazzed it until it looked like small nuggets of chocolate, see picture.

When the butter/choc mix has cooled a bit

Add the eggs and sugar to a mixing bowl and whisk until it looks like a mousse consistency has doubled in size and gone paler in colour, a few mins.

Fold in the choc butter mix

Then sieve and fold in the flour and cocoa until all mixed, finally fold in the chocolate “nuggets”

Fill a piping bag with the mixture, cut the corner and pipe into your molds filling to about halfway or fill your cake cases. bake for about 18-20 min the top will have a nice crust, but they will still be moist inside so will be a little soft.

Remove from the oven and leave to cool

The bronuts must be completely cooled before attempting to remove them from the molds or they will fall apart as they are delicate one cooled the chocolate will have set so turn them out on a tray or plate and press out of the molds.

And there you have Chocolate Orange Bronuts, you could decorate by dipping in melted chocolate and add, well anything you fancy, more choc segments or maltesers as the dip sets, your kitchen your choice.

Mine were just perfect as they were.

Tips

Try keeping the remains of the chocolate orange and use other Plain chocolte to add or white / milk chocolat as you wish and keep the orange segments as decoration.
